Daniel Chia

Daniel in his element, seated in a restaurant, surrounded by wine glasses...

Daniel Chia is the founder of YUMSENG.com.

He is currently a full-time Master’s student at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy.

Just before returning to his studies, he was a Lecturer at a Institute of Higher Education in Singapore, where he taught Food & Beverage subjects.

He also had stints as an adjunct faculty member at the local campuses of two foreign universities based in Singapore. There, he taught undergraduates the fundamentals of food & beverage operations and wine studies.

Daniel was in the habit of writing PowerPoint slides and lecture notes, which could sometimes reach thousands of slides for each subject…

He will now attempt to continue writing for this blog, and if he finds the time, he may just do the same as he does for his lecture notes, and write thousands of articles…

In his previous life, he has managed restaurants, bars, and, hotel wine & beverage programs, both in Singapore and overseas, in addition to selling and marketing wines & spirits as an importer and a retailer.

His current hobbies are, eating, drinking, cooking, photography and fiddling with IT.

And because he drinks, he does not drive, so don’t be surprised if, one day, you bump into him on the bus or train…

THE MEANING OF YUMSENG...!!!

"YUMSENG" is from the Cantonese dialect of Guangdong (Canton) Province in Southern China, and literally means, "to drink to success" or "to drink to victory". Nowadays, it's use is more towards "to finish drinking" or to empty one's glass of drink. The English equivalent for this is, "Bottoms up".

"YUMSENG" is usually shouted out three times in succession, and with increasing volume.

"YUM" is always extended (10 seconds or longer), whilst the second syllable "SENG" is shorter (5 seconds or so) and fades off at the end.
