The Art of Tasting Wine.

Generally it is a matter of appreciating the qualities and character, which give each wine its individuality.
The amateur and the gourmet will particularly appreciate these whilst the trade expert will also try to identify the wine.
It is through tasting that one can defect the wine's qualities, its faults, the stage of its evolution, its future and its past.

Tasting wine calls on our sensory faculties

Sight

Visually examining the wine enables one to appreciate the colour,
the brillance and the limpidity of the wine, basically, its appearance.

Smell

Our sense of smell helps us to detect the perfumes and aromas that are characteristic of each grape variety,
the fruitiness of the young wines and the bouquet of more mature wines etc.
It is possible to swirl the wine gently in the glass when tasting.
In this way the surface of the glass which is in contact with the wine will be increased,
and this will enable the aroma of the wine to be more easily perceived.

Taste

Tasting the wine reveals the various qualities of the wine such as fullness, harmony, balance, richness and liveliness.
